The Pashupatinath temple is a renowned and sacred Hindu temple which is located on the bank of Bagmati River, in the east part of Kathmandu valley, capital city of Nepal.

 

The Pashupatinath temple is the most important temple devoted to Lord Shiva (Mahadev). It is one of the four most important religious sites in Asia for follower of Lord Shiva. It is also the oldest Hindu temple in Kathmandu. Every year this temple magnetizes thousands of followers of Hinduism. The priests of pashupatinath are called Bhattas and the chief priest is called Mool Bhatt or Raval.

 

There are numerous multifarious stories involving the beginning of Pashupatinath. It is believed that Shiva and Parvati came to the Kathmandu valley and rested by the Bagmati while on the journey. Shiva was so impressed by its splendor and the surrounding forest has ,he and parvati changed themselves into deer and walked into the forest. After a while, the people and gods began to search for Shiva. Finally, after facing many problems they found him in the forest.

Janai Purnima (Raksha Bandhan) is celebrated all over the country. It is also known as Hindu festival and a festival to observe the bond of purity and security.

Newar people also put the scared threats around the wrist which are taken off on the day of Laxmi Puja, another big festival of Hindus. In janai purnima Newar famers offers different food items to frogs. Believing that worshiping the frog, who is considered an agent of the god of rainfall, by making offerings of different food items help to increase the production of crops. On this full moon day sees a large number of Brahmins at the holy river banks. They take ritual deep in the water and offer ablution to the gods.

Nepali New year is established by emperor Vikramaditya. So, New Year belongs to the history of Bikram Sambat. Various rituals are conducted and yearly annual carnivals like Bisket Jatra, Sindoor Jatra, and Bode Jatra are passionately carried out to welcome the New Year in Traditional Style.

Because of the extremely ingrained traditions of Nepal more than sixty ethnic groups, there are in fact nine different New Year’s days in Nepal. All of the nine new years are celebrated, but Nepal Sambat is regarded as the “National New Year”, bringing some facade of unity in the middle of great linguistic, cultural and historical diversity.

Holi is one of the prestigious festivals of Hinduism, especially celebrated in Nepal and India but has also spread at some other places of Asia and parts of the Western World through the Diaspora from the Indian Sub-continent. Holi is welcoming of spring and summer. It is also observed to get blessing of god for coming produce and lushness of the land. Holi is also known as Faghu Purnima in Nepali and Festival of Colors in English. It falls in between February and March.

Holi is celebrated as the significance of a victory over evil by good, arrival of spring, end of winter, and for many a festive day to meet their friends and family. During this colorful festival, Nepalese people greet each other offering the multiple colors on each other’s faces to express their sincere blessing and good wishes.

Holi is instigating as the celebration of death of the demoness Holika. This evil women who was suppose to be indestructible by fire had made many attempt to kill her nephew, Prahlad, a dedicated admirer of lord Vishnu. Eventually she put the boy on her lap and set fire underneath them, thinking that he would yield to the fire while she would break out. But instead the boy remained uninjured and holika, to her shocker, was smashed by the fire.On this day, the whole Kathmandu valley is immersed in the festival atmosphere. Many street programs were organized on this occasion, people’s dance in the road spraying colors on each other. This festival is all about sharing love and enjoying life.
