Himalayan Beauty is not just limited to Mountains. The Himalayan lakes are awe-inspiring too. I have selected some of the most beautiful ones, listed as below:

1.LAKE RARA

It is the biggest and deepest lake in the Nepal Himalayas. It is the main feature of RARA NATIONAL PARK. It is positioned in the Mugu district in the far western region of Nepal. The entire location of the lake is made up of long ridges covered with temperate forests and alpine pastures enclosing high valleys.

2.PHEWA LAKE

It is the freshwater lake in Nepal positioned in the south of the pokhara valley that contains parts of sarangkot and kaskikot. The lake is stream-fed but the barrage controls the water reserve, therefore, the lake is classified as semi-natural freshwater lake. The holy varahi mandir is situated on an island in the lake.

3.GOSAIKUNDA LAKE

It is an alpine freshwater in Nepal’s langtang national park, positioned in rasuwa district and is one of the most popular pilgrimages for Hindus. The lake melts and sips down to form the Trishuli River and remains frozen for six months in winter October to June. There are 108 lakes in this area small to medium in size.

4.SHEY PHOKSUNDO LAKE

It is located at an elevation of 3611.5 m above sea level in the Dolpa District. The lake is considered sacred by the local ethnic tribe therefore swimming is prohibited. The exotic lake is one of the most scenic and beautiful natural tourist destinations in Nepal.

5.TILICHO LAKE

It is located in manang district in Nepal, 55 kilometer as the brag flies from the city of pokhara. It is positioned at an altitude of 4919 meters in the Annapurna range of the Himalayas. The lake also holds an important place for the Hindus as this sacred lake features in one of the holiest texts in the Hindus –“The Ramayan”.

6.GOKYO LAKE

It is positioned in khumjung village development committee of solukhumbu district in sagarmatha zone in north-eastern Nepal. Those mountain lovers who are preparing for an adventure trek in the Everest region find their trip incomplete if they happen to miss the opportunity to visit these lake sites.

7. MANASAROVAR LAKE

Manasarovar Lake lies at 4590 m above mean sea level, a relatively high elevation for a large freshwater lake on the mostly saline lake-stubbed Tibetan upland. The sacred lake is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and Hindus. It is supposed that bathing in the holy water of manasarovar cleanses one’s depravities.
